Celebrating 50 Years of Service

50th Anniversary

In 1972, the Kentucky legislature enacted KRS 164.950, giving all state public universities the power to create campus police agencies and set standards for campus police officers. As a result, on Aug. 8, 1972, the university established the Public Safety Division.

We are dedicated to the principles of community policing and to becoming one of the most progressive, innovative and professional police departments in the nation.

The University of Kentucky Police Department emphasizes the values of professionalism, integrity, respect, customer service, responsibility and accountability, with all of our employees as we strive for excellence and continuous improvement. In doing so, we shall adhere to the core values to guide our decisions and behavior. We value:
